Home / Wildflowers of Westonia. / ABOUT THE WEBSITE, WESTONIA COMMON and the ID PROCESS / THE WEBSITE 1
LAUNCH: The website was launched in August 2025.
FINDING A PLANT PHOTO: Enter the common or scientific name of the plant into the search box on the top black band then press ENTER and an image will pop up if the plant has been included. A search for a colour, will also get a result e.g. 'pink everlasting'. Click on a photo for more detail.
Alternatively, use the interactive lists. There is one for common names and a longer one for scientific names (most plants do not have common names). Access is in the introduction (page 2).
MANAGING IMAGES: There are two icons towards the top right or top left of the screen which enable a change of photo size. Also clicking on a photo will enlarge it. To further enlarge an image, on the computer keyboard use control with the plus symbol then control with minus to reduce size. There are arrows for moving forward or back and for a slide show.
RANGE OF PLANT SPECIES: Most of the plants found in the Westonia Common are endemic to Western Australia. Information about the range of each species is included as text with the photos.
FLOWERING TIMES: The 'creation date' on each photo gives an indication of flowering time as that is the date the photo was taken.
PLANT SPECIES CATEGORIES: These have been selected for easy browsing. Acacia (wattles), Proteaceae (hakeas and grevilleas), Orchids, Eremophilas, Myrtaceae (eucalypts, waxes, melaleucas and bottlebrushes) and Goodenias (dampieras, goodenias and fanflowers etc.), are all quite well-known and distinctive plant families. The other three categories omit these plants. Plants that grow afresh each year are lumped together (Herbs). The remaining species are divided into two categories by height, two metres being the dividing point.
NOTE: All the plant species included in this website occur in the Westonia Town Common. More species from the Westonia Town Common will be added from time to time.
